Summer

We were all very sad after Kara had left. But summer was not over yet, so there was a lot of other fun things I did until school started again.

The first thing that happened was also sad though. On August 17th my brother left for Louisiana to stay there for ten months. We were all very excited for him, but sad that he had to leave.

But on the 20th my mom and me left to stay with my grandma in Hameln again for three days. We had a nice time there taking walks, playing games… And we saw the musical "Rats" about the Pied Piper of Hamelin which was very cute and funny, and something different because it was outside. It was just good to get out of our apartment for a couple days, because there it wasn’t as obvious that my brother was missing.

Then I had bought a ticket which was valid for the whole summer, which with you could ride any train or bus inside of lower Saxony.

So on August 24th I went to Bremen with my friend Lena.
It was a nice day there. We left pretty early in the morning and got there at like 10 or 11am. The day got really hot, but it was nice being there, because it was a weekday and therefore not too crowded.
On our way from the train station we went by an old mill and looked around there. It was nice, because there was a little park around it, but you couldn’t go inside.
We first went to this little district where they had all those cute, little houses. And the streets where so tiny. It was so nice to wander through the streets and look at the cute little houses and the cute little backyards. And also there were little shops or cafes in most of the houses. We went in some of those and they were really cool, too, because they had antiques and stuff like that. And there was an all year Christmas shop. That was funny in there, because you saw all the lights and all the decoration and you immediately felt like it was Christmas time, even though it was summer.
After that we went around where the town hall and the big cathedral is. We went inside the cathedral and looked around and then there was a market there and we looked around there. When we went by the town hall there was a couple that just got married. And then we took pictures with the “Bremer Stadtmusikanten”. That is an old tale about a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster who are old and not needed in their homes anymore and want to go to Bremen to become musicians there. So there was a statue of those. And there was a really nice fountain there we also took pictures with.
We then went down one street from there where you could see a glockenspiel which was really nice, because they also showed pictures of famous ships. We then went further down the street and walked along the Weser for a little bit.
After resting for a little bit we took another train to a district of Bremen we read about a little outside from the city center. It was supposed to be like a little fishing village because that’s where the river Weser flows into the North Sea. But when we arrived it wasn’t really anything special. There were some cafes right by the water and a little park. We walked along the water and through the park and ended up on a street with some shops. We bought a bread roll with fish there, walked along the street a little bit and then went back to the train station. We had seen a lot and our feet hurt. We took a train back to the main train station and waited for the train back to Hannover there. We arrived about 9 o’clock in the evening back in Hannover. All in one it was a very nice day and we saw a lot of nice things.

On August 27th we then went to Hamburg, this time our friend Sophia also came with us.
We left about the same time in the morning and also arrived about 11am in Hamburg. But before we arrived in Hamburg we had to change trains and had a little time at that station. That was good, because that was the station which was decorated in the way the painter Hundertwasser painted. There were colors and shapes and funny statues everywhere, it was really pretty.
When we arrived in Hamburg we looked for a way to the one which you could call a harbor. On the way there we saw the town hall and some fun shops and stuff like that. Then at that harbor we bought tickets for a little boat that would do a tour of Hamburg. First it went through a bigger lake, and there were fountains, other boats, and hotels, expensive apartments and cafes on the side. Then we turned and came to a smaller canal kind of system. On the sides there were also beautiful apartment buildings, and there were small canoe shops everywhere, where you could rent canoes for spending a couple hours on the water. We then came to a park which ended right by the water. But people were not allow to swim there. But right on the other side was a pool in which you could swim and it was right by the natural water. The boat then turned around and we came back a similar, but little different way. We came by another point where we had to turn around again, but at the end there, there were big and beautiful houses right by the water. But they were really expensive of course, even famous people had already lived there. All in all it took about two hours. It was really nice, because we could relax and on the same time got to know something about and see something of beautiful Hamburg.
From there we went on to the Speicherstadt, the place where they have all the huge storage houses from the time of the Hanse, when all the goods came in by ship. We thought there might be something interesting to see. But there were only museums and stuff like that and we didn’t have enough time anymore to spend a couple hours in museums. So we just walked around there and talked. We then went back to a street with a couple shops and on the way there we looked at a church. After we had something to eat we slowly went back to the train station and made our way back to Hannover. We had a really nice day in Hamburg and saw a lot of things. The only thing that wasn’t nice, was that it had rained once or twice in between.

And then school started again, our last year. Very important. But we didn’t think of that, right after summer ended.

One weekend we went to the forest with my dad and step mom, because once or twice a year we go there and look for mushrooms. We collect them there and take them home. And even though I don’t really like the soup my step mom makes out of them, I have always fun collecting them.

And on the 28th of September I had invited some friends to my home, because it was my 19th birthday the next day. So I invited them to rollover (do you really say that? I looked it up…) in my birthday. We had fun talking, taking weird pictures, eating and watching a movie. And when it was midnight and my birthday was finally there we had sparkling wine. It was a fun night.

And on my birthday I then celebrated with my family. For example my grandpa and my father were there.
